You have a point here. But you must remember that Suharto was in power
for 30 years. Marcos was in power for 21 years and Gen. Pinochet of
Chile was in power for 17 years. These people came to power, with an
exception of Marcos, by a coup d'etat . They have ruled with an iron
fist and have brutalized their countries. They have total control of
the whole country even the police, the army and the judiciary. No one
expected that one day they have to give up power.
Marcos was forced out by people's power with the help of some sections
of the military. Suharto was forced out of power by people's power,
aided and abetted by pressures from Suharto's own military leaders for
him to resign. Pinochet was forced to resign from his military leaders
as well as his people.
If you look at the event surrounding the ouster of these three
dictators Hun Sen can suffer the same fate. He can resist to resign
only when pressure has not been applied strong enough. When his CPP
and his military leaders turned against him and supported the people's
power he has no choice but to go. This time will come if he continues
to grab power for himself, his family and his cronies.
The other CPP leaders and the CPP-affiliated military leaders who were sidelined,
overshadowed, who were not awarded plum and powerful jobs and who did
not reap any benefits from Hun Sen's rule will continue to resent Hun
Sen. Remember that Hun Sen has awarded all the powerful positions to
his cronies who were not the original CPP members such as Sok An, Cham
Prasidh, Hok Lundy, Hing Bunheang, Keat Chhon, Hor Namhong, Kep
Chutema, Om Yintieng etc, etc. He has completely sidelined or ignored
totally the old guards such as Say Chhum, Say Bouthong, Im Chhoudeth,
Im Chhunlim and many others who were the original CPP.
These people are very resentful of Hun Sen. Sooner or later they will turn against
him. Besides, Hun Sen and Chea Sim's faction is at each other's throat
waiting to strike at each other any time. When this time comes he
can't resist but to resign like Marcos, Suharto and Pinochet.
